Environmental Toxins

Environmental toxins. They’re everywhere. In our food and water, dishes, clothes, even our medications. It is said that we are exposed to 125 more toxins each day than our grandparents were exposed to in their lifetime. We can’t completely eliminate them from our lives, but what we can do is educate ourselves and take preventative measures to decrease our exposure, in turn increasing our chances of living a longer, healthier, more productive life. I could go on for hours about the different exposures throughout various categories of toxins but for the sake of time, and hopefully keeping you all interested, I will mention a few that may surprise you, I know I was surprised. ...

Anti-Aging with Sunblock, Retin-A and Dysport

Many, if not all of you have heard my "anit-aging" speech and I always preface it with "you only have to hear this once." Sunblock, Retin-A and Dysport or Botox can stop, if not reverse the aging process in the face. How much, how often and the strength of the products all play a part in what works for you but they will work if used correctly. Let's look at the different aspects of the aging face; loss of fat, thinning skin, dermal cracks/creases and how each can be arrested to minimize their affects...

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy, commonly referred to as HRT can change lives and enhance marriages. And when done correctly, it can restore the feelings that we took for granted in our twenties. That youthful energy that allowed us to do whatever we wanted anytime of day or night is not lost. 25th Boston Marathon

Thirty one years ago I ran my first marathon. It took four years before I would attempt that distance again. Two weeks ago I completed my 25th Boston marathon and three noteworthy things happened that day; I ran the second half of the race faster than the first half, I ran the exact same time at the age of 52 that I did the first time at the age of 21 and I ran the race in the memory of a great father, husband and cardiologist, Dr George Gura. ...

Sleep

Sleep...We all need it, some need a lot of it, some need very little, some may be falling asleep while reading this. It alludes many while others never have a problem falling or staying asleep. It's a complicated subject and not thoroughly understood by scientists. It can be broken down into two main parts; non-REM and REM. REM stands for rapid eye movement and happens at the end of the sleep cycles. The sleep cycles are numbered non-REM 1, non-REM 2 and non-REM 3, with REM always following the third non-REM cycle. The reason knowing these cycles is important because sleep affects all aspects of our life; energy, mental clarity, healing, immune functions, libido and many more. I will try to keep this complicated subject as simple as possible while attempting to make my point on why this is my number one factor in the aging process....
